Why steel
Nearly everything in this catalogue is powder-coated steel tube. That is a choice with consequences, most of them good, two of them worth knowing.
Steel’s case is simple: for a given weight of material it carries more load than timber, it does not split at a bolt hole, and it ships in boxes a stairwell can turn. The stated ratings in our capacity chart are the visible result. Powder coat rather than paint means the finish is baked on and shrugs off the scuffs a kid’s room hands out.
The two honest costs
First, steel transmits vibration where wood damps it, so a loose bolt announces itself as a creak sooner. The fix is maintenance rather than material: the retightening habit on our wobble page. Second, steel is cold to the touch and looks it; the range leans into that with clean lines rather than pretending to be timber, and the upholstered platform frames cover the metal where a softer look is the point.
Where wood appears
Desktops, shelving and cabinet bodies in the range use engineered board, because flat surfaces are where board is at its best. The load-bearing skeleton stays steel.
